The photo above was taken on top of Fairview Mountain in Alberta Canada in October 2004. This was a turning point of sorts.
We had broken out of the gravitational field of work, family and other assorted responsibilities. We were off on our own and having a great time.
One trip led to the next. See “Advenchas” above or to the right.
We trekked the back way into Machu Picchu In 2012.
In March 2013 we visited the Mexican Bajío for Spanish School and the mountains of Michoacan for the wintering of the Monarch Butterflies.
In February 2014 – we hiked the Ring of Fire in Nicaragua.
In 2015 we had hoped to do the classic 105 mile inn-to-inn mountain trek around Mont Blanc via France, Switzerland, and Italy. And then, in 2016, the 500 mile pilgrimage of the Camino de Santiago across northern Spain.
But this was not to be. Sharon needed a bit of rebuilding. One hip replacement later, we visited Paris in 2016 for R&R.
In 2017 we took up tandem bicycling and rode across Italy.
2018’s Advencha was a tandem trip across the Finnish Archipelago. Mom’s last request. At least the throwing-her-ashes-into-the-Baltic-off-a-certain-rock-in-Hanko part.
In 2019 we did the Shikoku Pilgrimage in Japan on our tandem: 750 miles, 88 temples, & 2 typhoons. Still working on the rest of the write-up.
We lay low during the pandemic. Some short-sh stuff. Then in 2023 we rode the Petit Train du Nord bike trail north of Montreal and had a Neolithic Megalithic Tandem Advencha in the UK.
Skellig Michael and the Wild Atlantic Way in Ireland have been whispering for a while. Perhaps 2024 will finally be the year.
